Bloomfield Hills Michigan LASIK

April 29, 2014

Lasik-in-Detroit-Eye-Michigan-Grosinger-Spigelman-GreyBloomfield Hills, Michigan is a beautiful city located north of the metropolis of Detroit.  It’s residents live in hilly and verdant terrain with a distinctive architecture for the local buildings and homes.  The small population of 4000 people is typically employed in office jobs, many relating to the automotive industry.  There are medical providers in the area which provide services to the local residents including Bloomfield Hills Michigan LASIK providers.

What is LASIK?

Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis is a procedure where the top flap of the cornea is cut back to allow access to the stroma of the eye, a laser then makes modifications to the eye to correct issues like near-sightedness, far-sightedness or astigmatism.  The technology has evolved to where a majority of the work is now done with computer controlled lasers and complex digital maps of the eye making the procedure have a high chance of success.

LASIK issues

No procedure is without some complications and LASIK still has some downsides.  For example, some patients have reported blurring or starring after the procedure, sometimes the procedure is not successful and other times they need to have a second procedure to get the vision that they are hoping for.  Another issue is that a majority of insurance companies do not pay for the LASIK procedures so patients must pay all of these costs out of pocket.  Most LASIK providers have assistance programs or financing available to help offset the cost of the procedure.

Making the decision to get LASIK is a conversation you must have with your doctor.  When you are ready to get your LASIK procedure completed the Bloomfield Hills Michigan LASIK facilities are quite numerous.  A quick search online and you’re on your way to getting the perfect vision you have always hoped for with your eyes.

LASIK Eye Surgery – Pre Op: What To Know

April 16, 2014

Eye-Michigan-Detroit-Lasik-What-To-Know-Pre-Op

If you find that LASIK vision correction is suitable for your particular eye condition, then there is a series of instructions you should follow beforehand. Proper pre operation behavior can help increase the success rate of the process.

The first thing one should do if he or she is considering LASIK surgery is to get themselves educated. They should know about the cost, the process, the side effects that could occur post surgery, and whether their vision problems are right for this form of correction. This can all be discovered through our staff at Eye Michigan. A possible patient can come in for a free evaluation, and talk about going through the surgery and basically what comes next. After the operation a LASIK candidate can potentially experience glare, halos, wrinkles of the flap, problems with night vision, and more, so it is important to understand when you are experiencing any of these and what should be done about them.

Before the surgery, you are not permitted to wear contact lenses. The amount of time you’re not supposed to wear them depends on the strength of the contacts. For soft contacts, you shouldn’t wear them for a week before, for toric lenses you shouldn’t wear them for two weeks, and for rigid gas permeable lenses, you shouldn’t where them from two to three weeks.

On the day the surgery is to be performed, one should be accompanied by a driver to get oneself to our clinic. The patient is allowed to take their regular medication and eat beforehand. However, we ask that one doesn’t wear make up the day of the surgery, and we also suggest dressing in loose or comfortable clothing.

Even though there isn’t much preparation to do before LASIK vision correction, Eye Michigan recommends being aware of what is to be expected so it doesn’t hit the patient all at one. Following these guidelines could help with results, and any questions could be answered by our doctors at Eye Michigan. Feel free to visit our website www.eyemichigan.com for further contact information or anything about our procedures.

Lasik – Laser Eye Corrective Surgery in Detroit, Michigan!

April 3, 2014

Lasik-Detroit-2020-VIsion-Eye-Michigan-Grosinger-Spigelman-GreyEye Michigan is one of many competing ophthalmologist firms that perform LASIK vision correction. However, of all the LASIK firms in Detroit, Eye Michigan was one of the first to perform the actual procedure. In fact, our doctors, Dr. Grosinger, Dr. Spigelman, and Dr. Grey were all part of the original FDA study in October 1991. That right there goes to show the history and experience our doctors must have compared to other LASIK firms in the Detroit area.

LASIK surgery has become a major procedure in vision correction, and for those who don’t know, the procedure is quite simple. First our doctors apply anesthetic drops to numb any pain or possible discomfort during the surgery. Your eyes are held open by lid speculum and your eye motion is restricted with suction. Next a flap is made in order for the surgeon to access the inner corneal tissue. A laser is then applied to the inner cornea to reshape it, and then the flap is realigned to where it was originally. That’s the main basis of the surgery.

The difference with our firm compared to other LASIK performing firms in the Detroit area is that our offers options. We use the most up to date technology, and you have the decision of having custom LASIK or bladeless LASIK. Custom LASIK allows the laser to accustom to your specific eye condition, allowing for better improvement and results. A plus of this process is that it can correct high order aberrations, which include glare, halos, or impaired night vision; whereas standard LASIK only helps in fixing nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatisms.  Bladeless uses a laser to create the flap rather than an actual blade that can used by the surgeons. This procedure has been used in over 14 million LASIK surgeries throughout the world. Eye Michigan specifically utilizes the WaveLight® ALLEGRETTO WAVE™ excimer laser in this procedure, which is considered one of today’s most advanced laser platforms.

Eye Michigan is a trustworthy firm, and has very highly respected doctors and cutting edge technology in the Metro Detroit area. Contact our building for more information.

Price of Lasik Eye Surgery

March 25, 2014

Eye-Michigan-Grosinger-Spigelman-Grey-Lasik-Laser-Eye-SurgeryLASIK surgery is a very effective way to resolve visual problems like myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatisms. As effective as the surgery can and has shown to be, it can be quite costly.

The procedure is advertised as price per eye, to make a form of visual appeal to customers that it’s not that expensive, when in reality, for most cases you’re paying double the price for both eyes. The price range for LASIK surgery is major because it has been advertised for anywhere from $300 to $4000 per eye at the extremes. The lower extremity, however, is not as good as it looks because certain firms choose to make the prices they advertise not all inclusive so the price for continued service turns out to be much higher. The reason for moving towards the higher extremity on the price spectrum is because of the up to date technology that these firms can offer and they are all inclusive; meaning pre-op evaluation, post operation visits, and the actual procedure itself.

On average, the price of LASIK surgery is $2000 per eye, and this price as given is usually the price that will show up on the bill because it includes all the care needed for your condition. At Eye Michigan you can expect to pay more or less $4000 for both eyes. The reason our prices are higher is due to the firm’s investment in the best lasers, and computer analyzers to make the most precise cuts and guarantee the best results. Also, our doctors are very experienced and good at what they do. They have been given much recognition in the field of ophthalmology and have received numerous awards. That is, after they have gone through extensive schooling and practices. Our surgeons have had a lot to offer over the years, and can be trusted to perform the surgery correctly and restore your vision.

The price of LASIK surgery, as said before, can be a lot to handle but at Eye Michigan, with our doctors, and our up to date technology, the results will be worth your while.

The Olympics and Vision

February 26, 2014

Eye-Michigan-Lasik-Detroit-Olympics-and-VisionOne of the main U.S. Olympic announcers, Bob Costas had to give up his position on the panel due to what is assumed to be pinkeye. It started with one red, puffy eye, but soon spread to the other. He described it as waking up with his eyes as red as the Soviet flag. Although the infection is said to be minor, it made the announcer unable to wear his contact lenses and blurred his vision.

This issue has attracted much publicity to the Olympics, but more on his eyes than the events he was announcing themselves. Costas has been replaced by Matt Lauer, and the public jokes that he will be next to contract the infection. Costas soon regained his visual health and returned to the anchor’s chair for the Olympics until it’s Grand Finale this past Sunday. It was full of exciting visuals and performances that anyone would be fortunate enough to see, let alone see clearly.

If you are experiencing any eye irritation or redness, feel free to contact our expert team of ophthalmologists at eyemichigan.com or (248) 221-1022. Dr. Grosinger, Dr. Spigelman, and Dr. Grey along with the rest of the staff wish the U.S. the best of luck in these Olympics. Go #TeamUSA!

Keeping Your Eyes Healthy

February 6, 2014

2020-Vision-Lasik-Detroit-Eye-Michigan-Grosinger-Spigelman-Grey-The Sun Is Important to the Health of Your Eyes

Despite what we have been told time and again by medical professionals about the dangers of the sun’s UV radiation, our bodies are designed to absorb a large percentage of this radiation. This radiation is necessary in order for proper cell division to occur. With this cell division mutation can occur which leads to a variety of different types of cancer. What has this to do with the health of your eyes? They also need the sun’s UV rays in order to promote good eye health.

Sunglasses Are Not Good for Your Eyes

Recent studies have shown that the use of both contact lenses and sunglasses are equally responsible for a number of eye diseases. Chief among these is macular degeneration one of the leading causes of eyesight loss. It has been noted that those who wear sunglasses on a regular basis report steadily worsening eyesight. A simple solution to this problem is for everyone to stop wearing sunglasses, which should not be a problem as your eyes will gradually adjust to the bright sun.

More Ways to Improve You Eye Health

While reducing your dependence on sunglasses is one very important way to improve the health of your eyes, there are several other steps you can take to do so. One is to perform a regular regimen of eye exercises including “sunning.” This is a process whereby you face the sun directly with your eyes open and move your head from side to side. Do this in the morning and evening sun as the midday sun is too hot and will burn your eyes.

If you must wear sunglasses do so only at the height of the day to ensure you protect your eyes during the times of the day when the sun’s rays are likely to do the most damage. By keeping the sun’s rays from your eyes you deprive them of the necessary UV radiation needed to help them heal themselves.

The Beginnings of LASIK Surgery

January 29, 2014

2020-Lasik-1-29-2014The first concept of laser corrective surgery began in 1950 when Jose Barraquer developed a technique where he would cut thin flaps in the cornea that would alter the optimal measurements in the eye.  He also invented a high speed oscillating blade that would make precision cuts in the eye that were called microkeratome.  This early technology evolved and laser technology was introduced which are the beginnings of laser corrective surgery.

In 1970 the exciplex laser was developed by a team of researchers.  They laser technology they used was a combination of inert gases and ultraviolet light which made the tissue that it focused on disintegrate rather than just being cut.  The sensitivity and precision of this laser technology made it ideal for eye surgery.  The Excimer laser wasn’t introduced to the US until 1987 and its development continued so that now its one of the best lasers in use today.

The technology continued to evolve worldwide.  A Russian doctor discovered by accident that a young patient whose eye had been injured where a layer was cut off his cornea resulted in an improvement in his nearsightedness.  This accidental discovery led to the development of radial keratotomy to help correct nearsighted people.

LASIK or laser assisted in situ keratomileusis began to be used in the United States with the grant of a patent in 1989.  The VISX Corporation was the leading researcher during this time and they propagated the idea that the Excimer laser could be used to perform corrective vision surgery.  The founders of VISX developed a procedure called photorefractive keratotomy and used the VISX laser to perform the first procedure that year.

Nowadays, LASIK is a common procedure used by numerous ophthalmologists to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism.  While the beginnings of laser corrective surgery started many years ago it has evolved to a practical solution to correct many vision problems today.

Grosinger, Spigelman & Grey have been performing LASIK eye surgeries for over 20 years, ever since they were part of the initial FDA study in 1991. They are still some of the most experienced in the area, having the safest, most advanced methods available. Everything from bladeless LASIK to Allegretto Wave, we’ll have exactly what you’re in need of.
